Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen - Homemade with Love.

A mother’s love for cooking.

Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen is a tribute to my late mother. We specialize in authentic Malay dishes cooked with love — from our farm to your table.

My late mother Hawa, was a talented home cook. She cooks with so much love and her utter joy takes shape when we asked for seconds or thirds. “You did justice to the food!!!!” ...

Kinabalu Arabica Coffee

Our small-batch Arabica coffee is roasted with care in Lahad Datu, using beans grown on the fertile foothills of Mount Kinabalu — one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. The cool highland climate, rich volcanic soil, and steady mountain rain give the beans a gentle acidity and clean, balanced flavor that reflect the purity of Sabah’s landscape.

Each roast is guided by intuition and crafted in-house at Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen — ensuring that every cup captures the aroma, texture, and warmth we value most. It’s more than coffee; it’s a story of place and people, connecting the highlands of Kinabalu with the slow mornings of our kitchen in Lahad Datu.

As we look ahead, our vision extends beyond roasting. We are nurturing our own coffee and cacao at HAK’s Farm — building a small regenerative ecosystem where both crops thrive together under fruit trees and native forest species. One day, every cup of coffee and every piece of chocolate from Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen will come from the same land that sustains our farm, our community, and the forest we care for.

Sambal Stories from Lahad Datu

Sambal is the must-have condiment in Malaysia. There are many variations of sambal, and preference is very subjective—comparison between one sambal and another is almost immaterial. What truly defines sambal is the perfect balance between chili and its aromatic companions: shallots, garlic, ginger, ginger torch, lemongrass, and calamansi. Add umami from dried shrimp paste or vegan belacan, and you have one of Malaysia’s most iconic “hot sauces.”

The sambals we offer at the Bukit Piton Orangutan Project Shop come directly from Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen. Our ingredients are sourced as sustainably as possible from local suppliers in Sabah who practice good farming. Every sambal is hand-washed, peeled, and slow-cooked with care and patience—so you can enjoy a taste that feels truly homemade.

Naturally Crafted Powders

Our naturally crafted powders capture the colors, nutrients, and flavors of Lahad Datu’s farm life — from our blue pea blossoms and moringa leaves to kampung-grown ginger roots. Each powder is made in small batches, gently dried and ground to preserve its essence.

Blue Pea Powder adds a brilliant natural hue to your dishes and drinks — from rice to lattes — with a mild floral note and antioxidant properties. Moringa Powder, known as the “Tree of Life,” is rich in vitamins and plant proteins, perfect for smoothies, soups, or baked goods. Kampung Ginger Powder brings warmth and spice — harvested from local smallholders and sun-dried to retain its intense aroma.

Together, these powders tell a story of mindful farming and creative cooking — connecting our farm’s diversity with your everyday kitchen, one spoonful at a time.

Vegan Collection — Plant-Powered Creations

Inspired by nature’s diversity and the richness of Malaysian flavours, our Vegan Collection celebrates plant-based cooking at its most colourful and creative. Each product is thoughtfully crafted from local ingredients — from vibrant moringa and blue pea to kampung ginger and coconut — bringing both nourishment and joy to your kitchen.

Every vegan creation from Hawa’s Artisan Kitchen is made with the same care and respect for ingredients that define our philosophy — cooking with love, sourcing sustainably, and celebrating the bounty of our farm. Whether blended into drinks, cooked into curries, or baked into treats, these plant-based products invite you to explore wholesome, natural flavours.

Rooted in our vision for a regenerative future, the Vegan Collection connects good food with good farming — nourishing both people and the planet, one recipe at a time.
